Begusarai District is one of 38 districts of Bihar and is commonly known as the industrial capital of Bihar. It is situated on the northern bank of the Ganga River, and it is part of the Mithila Region of Bihar. There was a man named “Begu” a devotee of Maa Durga, named as Begusarai.
About Begusarai District
History
Earlier in 1870, Begusarai district was a part of Munger District as a subdivision. In the year of 1972, it became an independent district. There are several stories behind the name of this district Begusarai. In the earlier time of this district, Begum/Queen of Bhagalpur came to visit the holy place of Begusarai, Simaria Ghat, a holy place of Hindus situated at the bank of the Ganga River.
That’s why it became Begusarai, Begum Means Queen, and Sarai stands for the place where the queen stayed.
According to the prominent historian Professor Ram Saran Sharma, it is a part of the Mithila region.

Economy
Majorly, the economy of this district depends on agriculture and industries. Begusarai has several industries like Barauni Refinery, Barauni Thermal Station (NTPC), Urvarak Nagar Barauni, Pepsi bottling plant, Railway Locomotive Shed –Garhara and Deshratan Dr. Rajendra Prasad Dugdh Utpadak Sahkari Sang Ltd (as Barauni Dairy).
Apart from industries, maize, paddy, urad, Arahar, Masur, wheat, gram, matar, tisi, mustard, sunflower, tobacco, jute, potato, tomato,, and red chilli are major crops of Begusarai.
Recently, it became a fruit framing district like Guava, Litchi, and Mango.
